Recycling confusion
Posted On 04/27/2010 22:20:30 by watches2010

STORY: A TUFFLEY woman has hit out at "confusing" new recycling rules after rubbish was left strewn across her driveway.

Ann Bell, of Brookthorpe Close, said she put out items to be recycled last week, but some of the waste was just left in front of her house.

COMMENT: "I HAVEN'T found it confusing personally, but a lot of my neighbours don't seem to know what goes out and when - when I say a lot, I mean about 95 per cent of them.

"If the bin men are going to throw rubbish all over people's property for making a mistake we'll find that even the people who are trying to fit in with the scheme won't bother next time. The bin men should be disciplined for littering, in my opinion."

SARAH, GLOUCESTER COMMENT: "LAST week was the first collection of the small brown food bin. The mess that was left was appalling.

"Food was left everywhere, and it wasn't like that when I left for work in the morning. We shall see what happens today when they collect it again."

ANON, TUFFLEY COMMENT: "THIS has nothing whatsoever to do with recycling or saving the planet etc. It is purely a cost-cutting exercise to save the council money.

"Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves.

"How can someone who does not leave their bins arranged as the council would like be punished in the courts more than a drug dealer or violent mugger?" JAMES, QUEDGELEY COMMENT: "THERE'S no way I'm putting stale food in those boxes again. The lid was not put back on by the bin men. When empty it must have blown over to my step, so I came home and had to clean the bin, clean the lid and mop up the pavement and my doorstep.

"Never again. Surely we are not that desperate to recycle waste food."

NOBBY, GLOUCESTER COMMENT: "CAN someone tell me why you cannot put cardboard pizza boxes in the recycling bin, which on my leaflet says 'yes' for cardboard.

"Are the bin men really going to manually sort out what is allowed or not at each house? "This will encourage me to put cardboard in the ordinary bin bags where the 'rubbish police' won't find it. Good grief."

GAVIN, KINGSWAY COMMENT: "BEARING in mind all the negative comments about this scheme - and to be honest I remain sceptical about where it all ends up - the one thing it has done Clip on charms is make me reconsider what I do with my rubbish and separate out items that I did not do before."

HERMAN, GLOUCESTER COMMENT: "NOT using the stupid brown box.

"My neighbours' brown boxes have already been blown down the street. Not a pretty sight when the top comes off, I can assure you, but a feast for the seagulls and magpies."
